Expressived Modern Bedroom

Calming bedroom

Create the perfect resting place with cooling white tones, subtle details and summery accents. In this bedroom, a four-poster bed has been draped with a voile canopy to give it a luxurious ‘deep-south’ feel. The bed has been layered with crisp cotton bed linen, delicately detailed cushions, and a stylish quilt for ultimate style and comfort. Complete the look with soft metallic touches like the subtle feature wallpaper behind the bed.

Sixties style bedroom

To get a classic 60s look, combine bright colours and strong pattern. There are plenty of contemporary fabrics and wallpapers about that hark back to this era. Think bold geometric patterns.

Bedroom with purple accent shades

For a soft look in a bedroom try luscious berry shades balanced with a serving of cream for a seductive mix that's feminine but not girly. Cream walls – Clunch from Farrow & Ball – are accented with a wall in Pamplona Purple No 5 from Dulux, and purple gingham bedding from Cologne & Cotton. The restful cream tones are picked up in the frilled pillowcases from Laura Ashley and the tallboy and bed from Feather & Black's Solent range. Freshening the whole look are striped curtains made from Stratton Stripe Lilac fabric from Jane Churchill.

Open-plan light bedroom

The glass wall, separating the ensuite bathroom and bedroom, creates both a sense of space and light. Here, the ceiling has also been opened up into the loft for a greater effect.

 Opulent bedroom

In this sophisticated bedroom, the subtle lighting from two separate sources enhances the sheen of a quilted Habitat bedcover on a low-level walnut bedstead by Heal's.

Quirky modern bedroom

In this attic bedroom, a mansard roof provides better head height than a traditional loft extension. Tall windows and extra-large skylights maximise the airy feel, while the grey walls and colourful artwork add a quirky, modern touch.

Laid-back day bed

Create a cosy corner perfect for an afternoon snooze with a country-style day bed. Brighten the look with piles of pillows in funky fabrics and add a side table for books and a reading lamp.

 Rich brown bedroom

A gilt wall light from Porta Romana looks stunning against the rich chocolate in this bedroom. Lighten the mood with a neutral Dormy House headboard and crisp, white linen from The White Company.

 Bedroom partners

Choose a bedroom design that suits you both, with space for accessories. This headboard from Feather & Black has a masculine touch and the 10-drawer chest from Willis & Gambier has ample space for you both. The neutral coloured walls and white bed linen complements the room perfectly.

Bedroom storage

Create practical and stylish storage by putting box shelves above the bed head, hung symmetrically they become a display in themselves. The seven-drawer chest is from New Heights and the wall light is handily located on the wall, freeing up the bedside table.

 Aubergine bedroom

Choose rich aubergine walls contrasted with pale furniture. The striking headboard is from Oka and the floral curtains from Osborne & Little that offset the deep colour perfectly. The duvet cover and pillows are from Coloroll and are well contrasted with the deep red cushions.

Masculine bedroom

Dark chocolate-coloured walls and black cotton sheets from Ralph Lauren create a masculine feel to the bedroom but the green bedspread from Habitat injects a vibrant note of colour.

Blue modern bedroom

In a small room choose storage solutions that are dual purpose - handy black boxes hide away clutter yet double as smart bedside tables. The blue bedlinen with zigzag pattern creates a modern, masculine feel.

Cosy bedroom

Covering one wall in dark toned plaid creates an intimate feel. Bedding in a lighter shade stops the room from feeling small.

Bold red and white bedroom

Bold red and white is a classic colour combination and adds a cheery feel to any space. Here, a circular motif is repeated to create a coherent theme throughout the room.

Attic bedroom with beams

Allow original beams to become the focal point of a bedroom by keeping a scheme white. Thick knitted throws and cushions in soft grey add warmth.

 Modern retro bedroom

A no-frills four-poster bed and vintage accessories give this room a streamlined retro feel. Red, white and blue colours add a British-inspired twist.

 Bold floral bedroom

Add edge to bedroom flowers by creating a tiled headboard. Having one design across the expanse rather than a repeated motif is a modern way to tesselate and avoids a bathroom feel.

Bold feature wall

Woodland-scene wallpaper is a bold and dramatic choice that creates an intriguing atmosphere, while a wooden four-poster bed continues the natural theme.

Relaxing bedroom with wall hanging

A bold fabric wallhanging draws the eye to the bed and adds luxury to a plain wall. Choose a really smart pole and bracket for the hanging and use a bold print for maximum wow factor. To create a warm and comfortable den, combine soft blankets and eiderdowns with layers of fine bed linen in gentle tones. Here we've used rosy shades with touches of jade and old gold on the embroidered cushion. Simple, modern furniture and curtains completes the look.

Boathouse-style bedroom

Bring a classic coastal vibe to your bedroom with white-washed walls, rich reds and navy blues. Choose bleached out wooden flooring and a stripy rug to create a beach house feel. Add definition to your walls with modern accessories, like these white-framed prints.

Bright blue accents bedroom

Give your bedroom a luxurious look with mirrored furniture and a flash of colour. Here, the taupe-on-taupe stripe wallpaper and buttoned headboard give the room a tailored feel that’s softened by the cosy throw and vintage-inspired bed linen. Finish off the look with a shaggy carpet to treat your feet.

Shimmering bedroom

Subtle pearl wallpaper adds instant sophistication in this bedroom. A silk headboard adds to the glamour and is teamed with shimmering cushions and a silky bedspread. Mirrored furniture completes the look with extra sparkle.

Flower power bedroom

This monochrome bedroom plays with scale by magnifying delicate details to create a centrepiece that’s pretty, yet pulls a punch. The large flower canvas acts as an eye-catching headboard and goes perfectly with the white bed linen and subtle black accents. Without a bed frame, the focus can remain on the feature wall behind the bed. White accessories, flooring and sheer blinds make the room feel light and airy.

Bedroom with black wallpaper

Black furniture creates a dramatic impact in this bedroom. Wallpaper with touches of red to break up the black, and red cushions and accessories continue the theme around the room. The ladder bookcase is a quirky way of displaying books.

 Rustic bedroom

An old galvanised bin looks rustic and chic as a bedside table in a clean, white bedroom, while the vintage lamp adds even more character. A chunky wollen throw softens the look.

Modern masculine bedroom

Panelled walls, Venetian blinds and sophisticated bedlinen give this masculine bedroom a soothing, luxurious feel.

Luxurious bedroom

Turn your bedroom into the perfect escape by choosing a four-poster bed and dressing it in quality linen and luxurious blankets and throws. Then add large square pillows as well as traditional ones to make sitting up in bed just as comfortable as reclining

Contemporary bedroom

A sleek storage unit above the bed clears away clutter in this contemporary bedroom. Wall-mounted lights save space on the bedside tables, as well as providing gentle lighting. A large upholstered chest at the end of the bed is great for storing bed linens and extra blankets, while stacked pillows and cushions add a luxurious feel.
